The only tangible diference between the book and the tv show comes down to the medium each of them uses, in the books the story is told from the PoV of the various characters so many of the details regarding the relationships between them are laid down through the thoughs of the characters, while in the tv series they avoid both inner dialog and flashbacks, and instead add a couple of scenes
